People talk about all the shocking aspects of this film. But, if you begin to accept the lives of these kids, perhaps the most shocking moments are in the subway. First when they actually seemed interested in those performers (I mean, throughout the film, they don’t even hesitate to dis anyone); they even show some admiration for the guy with his accordion (or whatever it was). But more shocking than that, casper actually shows some sympathy for the guy with no legs (begging for money) and says “bless you back” and shows some charity by giving the guy some change.

This same kid rapes, assaults, steals, and does every drug known to man in this film.

That’s why his acts of kindness are the most shocking part of this film.

The question really is whether or not you can believe that kids like these exist (or could exist). If you don’t, then you probably think the film fails. But if you do, then you probably like the film. Personally, I’ve never met kids exactly like the characters in this, who had all of their traits, but I have known kids who shared, say one trait of the characters, and other kids who shared other traits of the characters. it's been about 10 years since i first saw this, but i don't think my opinion of this has changed so much.

Chloe sevigny is in this. People must see a lot in her, considering all the great films she’s been in and/or directors she’s worked with. To name a few: harmony korine (who wrote the screenplay to this film), and later korine’s best friend Vincent gallo , woody allen, lars von trier, whit stillman, jarmusch, assayas and mary harron’s american psycho (a masterpiece).
