So, it looks like it was first a novel, then a manga, then this film, and then the tv drama. What a journey for this story. the internet tells me that this film version is slightly different than the novel. Particularly with the contrived character of Ritsuko Fujimura, who apparently isn’t even in the novel. the existence of her character in the film potentially asks too much of the audience. But being the sucker that I am, Im willing to accept the coincidence.

There are some pretty emotional parts here and the score (which grows on you) accentuates it. The main thing with this film is that it focuses on the power of memory. Everyone one can relate to that.

One part that I didn’t like was that he was running after Ritsuko, which segways into the flashback, and then when they come back to the present time, he’s looking for his old girlfriend’s tapes. What? Like he totally forgot what he was trying to do. Hopefully I missed something and it really makes sense.

Other than that, this was good.
