i havent really checked out the other films in this series, i've only scanned through them. but they all appear to be action filled types, except for this one. a lovely film. i dont know how many times i've seen this; tonight i watched it again, this time with the commentary. one thing he said rings true for almost all of his films: music is more than for just the background. i guess im part of that mtv generation and that's why i like his films. and also why i'm down with shunji iwai as well.
the driving sequences are just beautiful. it gives me hope for his upcoming road film. i can't imagine anyone who could make a more beautiful road film than wkw. we'll see when it comes out. (then again, knowing wkw, it probably won't be a road movie at all by the time he's finished editing it). |

i like this short a lot, a very layered piece. i like to think of the narration by clive owen throughout as a guide to understand wkw’s storytelling style. clive owen does his best homage of steve mcqueen’s ‘bullit’ and william chang’s editing is fantastic, especially the jump cuts and speed changes he employs.
btw, principle photography on ‘my blueberry nights’ is completed and the editing, it appears, will take longer than the production of the film. scheduled release is next summer.
if it's released by next summer, my guess is it'll be in cannes, where they love him
but i still need to check out bullit | |
