sequels usually suck and this is oh so ever true with this film. yes i was entertained, but over-all this is a bad film. the opening moments of the film are the best, particularly with the use of the music that was in the original. but the cinematography is too frenetic during the zombie first attack at their hide-out, and its too difficult to see what is going on. once carlyle gets away from that attack, the movie goes down hill. the frenetic camera work was a sign of things to come, i suppose, where there is style but no substance to back up the style. SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER it was cool how the big name actor, carlyle was actually turned into a zombie, sort of a twist, because half-way through you think he's the star, but then he becomes one of the monsters. still, very cheesy when he has not one but two encounters with his children later in the film. i mean, come one, that is asking too much of the audience to believe that he would be the actual zombie that finds the kids later on. coincidence? I think notEND SPOILER END SPOILER END SPOILER i hope there isnt a 28 months later. but if there is, please let it be by a team that can write a good story or make a good film. i cant believe that doyle and garland actually were exec producers to this. they make a great film and now have this carry on the mantle. id be embarrassed. honestly, im being hard on this film because of the great expectations that i had. 28 days later is so awesome (although it does get bogged down at that military fortress a bit). maybe if i never saw 28 days later, id just call this an average film with its moments and call it a day.
anyway, i saw 28 days later back in the theater with a friend of mine. but we missed the first 20 minutes or so (we walked in right when good ol cililan wakes up from his coma). i was hesitant to go into it, because just like annie hall, i hate watching something if i miss the first part. but i eventually saw it again with my future wife.
and so today my wife and i go to the sequel. and in super geek fashion, i will post the ticket stubs from when i first watched 28 days later along with my 28 weeks later stub.
it took me a while to find it. i know last time i did this, i swore to myself that i would keep all my old ticket stubs in a place where i could easily find them. but then you start piling stuff up on top of it, because it is after all a place where you can easily find stuff, and so it took me about 30 minutes to find it buried.
interesting how the price of a matinee is the same as it was 4 years ago. granted, they are different theaters, but still.
