probably the greatest contribution this film has made to the world was the fact that we get to here john wayne say "dude" every other line! this alone made watching the film worth it.

this was ok. it is engaging for the first hour or so, but it drags on and on after awhile. i will say this, the pacing is consistent here, but it was just too long a film for me. the dialogue was typical (which isnt a good thing), it wasnt really exciting or suspenseful, and the acting was nothing special. the score is occasionally good, but a lot of times it sucks.

since its not an action film, the fighting and shoot-outs shouldnt be what we measure this film by, but they were so unrealistic and boring. if they cut this film in half, i think i wouldve liked it more.

tarantino listed this as the second greatest film of all time in the sight and sound poll.
