I don’t know why, but I kept getting this feeling I was watching an Imamura film.
Anyway, the inconsistent use of hand held camera gave this film a different kind of feel than what I’d expected. But it was refreshing nonetheless. It has this rough cut feel to it. I didn’t realize that this guy also did bashing, which is a film I still want to see.
The drama between the two sons and father was well done. You don’t see this kind of relationship depicted too often. But it was very honest. Real and complex.
Kind of feels like it was a bit short; but , that said, maybe adding more to the film would have been over-doing it. I guess the way it is now is down to its bare essentials.
And it’s important to watch this all the way through to the end of the credits; otherwise, the experience of the film is completely different. i wonder how many experiences would have been different if i had seen the film all the way through to the final credit... |
