the direction here is phenomenal. on par with anything ive ever seen. this is the third film by the brothers ive seen, and while i dont completely understand their work, i now realize that these guys are masters of the form, and this is a masterpiece of the art form. previously, i said i wasnt sure if it was novelty of it all, or if it truly was their talent that amazed me; now i know. how this film lost the palme d'or is beyond me (with all due respect to jane campion, of course). i wont go as far as jonathon romney and say its one of the 10 greatest films of all time, but like i said, id probably put this in one of the 10 greatest directorial efforts ever. dont know much about bruno shulz though. maybe i should. |
