it would have been better if they just focused on the wall itself and the story behind the wall. because the way it is now, it feels like the rest of the film is just tacked on. so you have this film which presents a giant story about the wall and then a few little stories about other things she does...it just doesnt do her other works of art justice. dwarfed in comparison. and they could have gone more in depth with the wall anyway. or, just make the doc longer by expanding on the other works that she has done. but as it is, this film is disappointing (but still enjoyable).

its like we focus one half of the film on this great masterpiece, and the other half is a portrait of the artist and her other works. so it just doesnt feel balanced. the portrait of the artist should have been throughout the film, but they only start tackling the story of maya lin herself (at least successfully) after the story of the wall.

anyway, its a great story nonetheless; as ive said before, i just think you have to really suck to ruin a doc. its a shame though that the subject matter wasnt given the proper respect it deserved. maya lin is one of the greatest artists of the past 25 years or so and this is what we get.
