From the extras on the dvd, it looks like this film was originally supposed to be called “dead flowers” but apparently somewhere down the line it has become broken flowers

This is my favorite jarmusch. The first one I saw was stranger than paradise, which I liked. Or maybe it was dead man, which I didn’t like at all. Dead man was seen with a friend, who really wanted to watch it, but I was like, no man, let’s check out Andrei rublev instead. In the end, I went with my friend’s choice, because it was a shorter film, and rublev wasn’t really something we wanted to get into on a Friday night. The only thing from dead man that I remember is depp and also the scene where they step on that dude’s head. Gross. And I’ve also seen ghost dog, which I felt had it’s moments (the sequence where he goes and takes out everyone in that mansion), but really doesn’t move me.

The music is what I’d expect from jarmusch; or really, I should say that Im not surprised that jarmusch used the music which he did.

I didn’t like the last scene where the camera spins around him. It didn’t seem right. Murray always seems to play deadpan roles, such as those in rushmore and lost in translation . However, I think his performance in this film is the most believable, especially compared with the over the top performance he gave in LIT (although his performance in rushmore doesn’t really bug me).

kusturica is said to have favored this film to win the palme d’or. But alas, it did not go his way

After reading a little bit more about the film, the kid in the car scene is actually a funny inside joke.
